Abstract
536,146. Electric pens. JOHNSON, H. L. K. Nov. 14, 1939, No. 30058. [Class 146 (iii)] [Also in Group XVI] An engraving tool 35 is reciprocated by a plunger 25 connected to the core 22 of a solenoid 19 supplied with alternating. current. The plunger passes freely through a handle 10 provided with a sleeve 11 of cork and is urged to a neutral position by opposing springs 29, 30 engaging a disc 28 fixed to the plunger. The spring 30 bears against an adjustable bush 13 of magnetic material the enlarged upper end 15 of which projects within the solenoid and serves as a magnet attracting the magnetic core 22 in the direction in which the tool penetrates the work. The core has a radial slot 24 extending from its periphery to its centre to reduce easy currents in the core. The tool 35 is separate from the plunger but pressed into engagement therewith by a spring 37.
