Abstract

495,632. Discharge lamps. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. June 20, 1938, No. 18275. Convention date, June 22, 1937. [Class 39 (i)] A high pressure metal vapour discharge lamp containing mercury with cadmium and /or zinc in such quantities that during normal operation their vapours are unsaturated has 1À5-6 per cent cadmium, À75-3 per cent zinc or a mixture containing specified quantities of zinc and cadmium and is provided with a layer of red fluorescent material. In the form shown, electrodes 2, 3 are spaced 22 mms. apart in a quartz envelope 1 having an internal diameter of 7 mm. and containing argon at about 20 mm. of mercury with 7À5 mg. of mercury and 0À2 mg. cadmium. The tube is secured in a bulb 7 having an internal coating 9 of zinc-cadmium sulphide with or without a blue fluorescent material which may be zinc sulphide and the space between the tube and the bulb 7 is exhausted.
