Abstract

489,406. Vibratory massage apparatus; reciprocating motors. SODECO SOC. DES COMPTEURS DE GENEVE. June 18, 1937, No. 17016. Convention date, Jan. 29. [Class 81 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXV] A vibratory massage apparatus comprises an electromagnet 4 energized by alternating current and having an armature 9 carried on a rod 8 which carries a replaceable massage element 10 ; the rod is supported on both sides of the magnet by the central portions of laminated or single blade springs 13, 14, the ends of which are mounted on the magnet casing 17. The magnet core comprises a sleeve 5 surrounding rod 8 and integral with an end disc 6 and a cylindrical casing 7 ; the armature 9 is of disc form. As shown, the springs 13, 14, are secured by screws 16 and may be in longitudinal tension, or in compression and curved. The springs may be variably loaded to regulate the vibration amplitude by a compression or tension coil spring secured at 11, or 12, and to a knob screw-threaded in the outer casing 1 of the apparatus ; alternatively a screw cap forming one end of casing 1 may have an internal annular or spiral rib which, by rotation of the cap, is caused to bear on intermediate points of spring 14 with variable pressure or a variable point of application. The springs 13, 14 may be secured, instead of by screws 16, 17, (1) by knife-edges which permit longitudinal but not lateral movement thereof, (2) by V- grooved plates one of which for each spring is spring mounted to cause the springs 13, 14 to curve outwardly, or (3) by screws 16 at one end and clamps permitting slight longitudinal, and lateral movement at the other. The casing 1 has a hollow handle 2 enclosing the electric supply flex and also if desired a rheostat or means permitting the use of different tappings of the coil for different voltages.
