Abstract

For use in soldering a mixture consisting of oxides of silver, copper and tin may be made by adding a slight excess of a hot caustic soda solution containing sodium stannate to neutral nitrates of silver and copper. The precipitate is washed and heated to 350 DEG C. Another mixture of oxides of silver and tin may be made as in the previous method but the alkaline solution resulting from excess of sodium stannate is neutralized by heating with sulphuric or nitric acid. A further mixture consisting of oxides of lead and tin is made by dissolving a mixture of stannous and lead chlorides in a hot 25 to 30 per cent solution of sodium chloride and precipitating by addition of caustic soda or sodium carbonate solution and heating the washed precipitate to 350 DEG C.
