Abstract
Textiles are weighted, waterproofed or fireproofed by treatment with aqueous solutions of compounds of metal oxide-ammonia with amphoteric metal oxides such as nickel hexammine aluminate and zincate, copper tetrammine aluminate and zinc tetrammine aluminate, followed by drying to volatilize the ammonia and precipitate a mixture of oxides. Examples describe the preparation of (1) nickel hexammine aluminate by the interaction of nickel hexammine hydroxide with aluminium; (2) nickel hexammine zincate by adding a solution of zinc hydroxide in caustic soda to a solution obtained by addition of ammonia to nickel sulphate solution or by dissolving zinc hydroxide in a saturated nickel hexammine hydroxide solution; (3) copper tetrammine aluminate by addition of aluminium to a concentrated solution of copper tetrammine hydroxide, and (4) zinc tetrammine aluminate by adding sodium aluminate solution to a nickel sulphate-ammonia solution or by adding concentrated ammonia to a mixture of zinc oxide and aluminium powder.ALSO:Textiles are weighted by treatment with aqueous solutions of compounds of metal oxide-ammonia with amphoteric metal oxides such as nickel hexammine aluminate and zincate, copper tetrammine aluminate and zinc tetrammine aluminate, followed by drying to volatilize the ammonia and precipitate a mixture of oxides. The materials may be simultaneously or subsequently treated with dissolved, saponified or emulsified fats, waxes and resins. Examples describe the preparation and use of (1) nickel hexammine aluminate by the interaction of nickel hexammine hydroxide with aluminium; (2) nickel hexammine zincate by adding a solution of zinc hydroxide in caustic soda to a solution obtained by addition of ammonia to nickel sulphate solution or by dissolving zinc hydroxide in a saturated nickel hexammine hydroxide solution; (7) copper tetrammine aluminate by addition of aluminium to a concentrated solution of copper tetrammine hydroxide; and (4) zinc tetrammine aluminate by adding sodium aluminate solution to a nickel sulphate-ammonia solution or by adding concentrated ammonia to a mixture of zinc oxide and aluminium powder.
