Abstract

Viscose containing an addition of an antimony compound, is spun by a two-stage process in which it is first subjected to dry spinning with stretching and is then coagulated before or during twisting. A suitable coagulating bath consists of a neutral or alkaline solution of salts, e.g., cold water is saturated first with salt <PICT:0466550/IV/1> and then with sodium carbonate. The threads are rendered insoluble by heat, for example as by using boiling spinning baths by steaming the spun threads. By the process the speed of spinning may exceed 500 metres per minute. In the drawings, the antimonial viscose is spun through orifice 2 and stretched in the air to form fine filaments 3 which are sprayed while on the drum 4 by means of the atomizers 5. The filaments may be wound up on the drum 4 or may be carried to a bobbin 7.
