Abstract

In a process for producing a cake of artificial thread which has practically uniform dyeing properties, viscose is supplied to spinning nozzles at a constant rate, and the thread is drawn through the spinning bath at a constant rate by means of a godet rotating at constant velocity, and then the thread is passed over one or more further godets of which at least the last from which the thread descends into the spinning box rotates at an increasing speed either during the formation of the whole of the cake or at least during the formation of the latter part thereof. The increase in speed is desirably greater when the cake is subsequently dried and treated as a cake than when it is rewound into the form of a hank. For instance, when the cake is to be wound into a hank before drying, the speed of the godet may be increased by 1,5 or 2 per cent during the formation of the thread while the increase may be 5 per cent when the thread is to be dried in the form of a cake. The increase may take place more rapidly towards the end of the spinning, and the increase may commence a short time after spinning has started.
