Abstract

451,332. Street-lighting &c. apparatus. HOLOPHANE, Ltd., Elverton Street, Vincent Square, Westminster. March 9, 1936, No. 7037. Convention date, March 19, 1935. [Class 75 (ii)] Street - lighting apparatus for producing an asymmetric light distribution having a reflector enclosing the light source and adapted to reflect light into the desired directions is provided with vertical refracting prisms arranged beneath the reflector in the zones between said desired directions. The apparatus which is intended to direct light from the source S in the directions F and F<1>, Fig. 2, is substantially elliptical in contour and has at opposite sides parabolic reflecting surfaces 1 and 1<1> (not shown), with foci at S and directrix parallel to the major axis. A glass skirt 2 is formed at zones 3, 3<1> beneath zones 4, 4<1> between the surfaces 1, 1<1> with vertical refracting prisms to refract into the directions F, F<1> light emitted from the source within angles a and a<1>. The zones 4, 4<1> have horizontal reflecting prisms to reflect light falling on them towards the zones 3<1> and 3 respectively. The skirt 2 may be integral with the surfaces 1, 1<1> and zones 4, 4<1> or may comprise a separate glassware.
