Abstract
429,536. Drying agricultural products. SIMONSEN, C. U., Molholm, Vejle, Denmark. March 19, 1934, No. 8567. [Class 6 (iii)] [See also Group V] To form a hollow cylindrical or prismatic body of agricultural products such as grass, straw or vegetables the products are laid on the lower reach of a band conveyer 1 that carries them through an annular opening 4<1> in the side of a rotating hollow drum, 4. The drum is provided with a core, formed by a tube 11, and in the annular space 12 between the drum and the core a stationary intermediate piece 13 is fitted which is formed as a helical guide 14 at its right hand end. The material, fed into the drum by the conveyer, bears against and is pushed to the right by the helical guide 14 and so is forced along the space 12 thus being formed into a compressed cylinder. Lengths of this cylinder may be cut off for drying or hot air or other heating agent may be used to heat the material while the cylinder is being formed. The material may be compressed in band form before being fed into the drum. The core may be stationary the internal surface of the drum being fitted with angle iron ribs to assist in carrying the material round.
