[Class 75 (i).] In a spark-producing toy in the form of a container made in imitation of articles in ordinary use in which when the articles are used in the normal manner, showers of sparks are produced, the spark-producing device which is housed in the container is under the influence of an arresting device which, on the article being used, is released thereby allowing the sparkproducing device to come into operation. In the form shown, which is an imitation of a match-box, a clockwork mechanism d is disposed in the inner box b a friction wheel f being mounted on the shaft e. A spring-controlled flint i contacts with the wheel f which, when the box b is closed by the cover a is held stationary by the part m of a leaf-spring k mounted in the box b. When the part b of the box is pushed out the part m of the spring k springs out through the opening l releasing the friction wheel f and producing a shower of sparks. The box b may be covered by a plate o representing matches, an opening p being provided therein for the emergence of the sparks. The spring k may be substituted by a two-armed lever pivoted inside the box b and provided on its inner side with a brake block which in the closed position of the box contacts with a pinion in the mechanism d. The device may also be made in the form of a snuff-box with a hinged lid which when opened releases the wheel f, as a packet of cigarettes, a pocket lighter, a toy pistol, a tin container, a camera, or a fountain pen or pencil.
