Abstract
323,544. Anemostat, Ltd., and Hirchberg, L. M. Oct. 5, 1928. Separators. - Apparatus for separating solids from liquids or gases comprises a conduit and a number of baffles each comprising several hollow cones arranged one within the other so as to provide a group of gradually increasing passages. Specification 283,258, [Class 8 (ii), Air and gases, Treating &c.], describes such a baffle device. The baffles are preferably arranged face to face and may be arramged in pairs in a straight, conduit through which the stream passes. Fig. 2 shows form in which two pairs of distributing devices 11 are arranged in a conduit 10 having an outlet 13. Streams of gas introduced from opposite ends of the conduit 10 are mixed in the chamber 12. This form may be used for separating dust or condensable vapours from gases, or solids from liquids. The sudden expansion of the. gases on passing through the outer of the devices 11 causes the dust, or condensed vapours, to separate and, settle in chambers 14. The chambers can be thrown out of use by dampers 15.
