Abstract

Density separators; casings; driving. - The bowl 6 of a centrifugal separator for liquids is supported by a spindle 5, and is driven by an electric motor the rotor 2 of which is secured to the tube 4 enclosing the spindle. The sleeve and spindle are firmly connected at their lower ends and also if desired at the bearing 8. Above and below the bearing 8 the spindle 5 can bend without transmitting stress to the sleeve. The stator 1 of the motor is carried by a fixed tube 3, and a tube 7 is arranged to prevent lubricating oil from reaching the sleeve 4. The step bearing 9 may consist of a single ball 21 in a hole of larger diameter than the ball to permit movement in order to distribute wear. The liner discs 14 are secured by a nut 22, so that the upper part 11 of the bowl may be removed and the lower part 12 rotated with the discs uncovered to discharge mud from the bowl. The cover 15 may be cast, or built up of pressed steel plates and it is provided with a manometer pipe. The inlet and outlet channels in the cover communicate with hollow bosses 17, 19 on the frame, and th:; pipes are attached to these bosses. The cover has a stud 20 which fits in either of the bosses to support the cover 15 as shown in Fig. 6, and the bowl lifter 23 may be supported in the other boss. 'The joint between the parts 11, 12 of the bowl may be packed by a rubber ring, or as shown in Fig. 4 a ring 18 of soft metal such as lead may be used.
