Liquid fuel such as mineral, animal, or vegetable oil, tar, benzol, or kerosene, is improved by adding to 100 litres thereof about (1) 300- 400 grams of turpentine, 4 grams of essence of cinnamon, 2 grams of essence of caieput, and 1 gram of essence of cloves; or (2) 400 grams of turpentine and 2-4 grams of cymene; or (3) 700 grams of turpentine, 3 grams of eugenol, 8 grams of cinnamic aldehyde, and 100 grams of hexamethylene. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) liquid fuels such as petroleum or other mineral oil, liquid hydrocarbons, tars, benzoles or other coal oils, animal and vegetable oils, and alcohols, mixed or not with petrol, are burned more completely and cleanly by addition of a small proportion of cyclic "acetylenic" hydrocarbons (Cn H=2n-4), or of cyclo-hexadiene hydrocarbons (Cn H=2n-6), or of their " derivates " or " generators," alone or mixed. Substances specified for addition to lamp oil are terpenes and their isomers and polymers, e.g. oil of turpentine, oil of cajeput, oil of cloves, oil of copaiba, oil of cinnamon, hexamethylene and its homologues, cymenes, e.g. hexahydrocymene or menthane and their " derivates," limonene or citrene. cinnamic aldehyde, anisols, e.g. eugenol, iso-eugenol, their " derivates," e.g. coniferylic alcohol, and products containing or producing these substances. The cyclic compound may be mixed with the liquid fuel, with the air used, or be injected to an engine simultaneously with the fuel. In an example, a motor spirit consists of a mixture of heavy mineral oil or vegetable oil with 0.5-0.7 per cent by weight of oil of turpentine and 0.002-0.003 per cent of eugenol, or with 0.008 per cent of cinnamic aldehyde and 0.1 per cent ot hexamethylene. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
