Fastenings, pivoted stanchion type; staple and slotted-plate fastenings.-In a fastening for wagon doors, a plate C fixed on the door is adapted to pass between lugs d, d<1> on the frame and to be secured by a bar E mounted to slide and pivot on a pin e in the lower lug d<1>. The bar E has circular portions e<2> adapted to engage corresponding apertures d' in the lugs d, d' and, when raised, can be turned down to permit the passage of the plate C. The bar E may be arranged to turn in a plane at an angle to the door other than a right-angle. A stop e<3> on the bar rests on the lug d and prevents strain from being put on the pivot e. In a modification, the plate C is hinged to the door and is slotted to pass over the lug d. When the fastening is applied to double doors, the plate C is turned up at the end to prevent the plate from sliding from behind the bar E. In the form shown in Fig. 10, the bar E is mounted on the door, and this is slotted at a to pass over the lugs d, d' on the frame. In the form shown in Fig. 12, a stanchion G is pivoted on the pin e and, when turned up to secure the door is locked by a bar E also mounted on the pin e, the stanchion being slotted to pass over the lug d.
