Abstract

154,470. Schat, A. P. Dec. 30, 1919. Pulley-blocks; self-sustaining gear.-Relates to pulley-blocks having means for partially or wholly arresting the descent of the load. The load hook 5, Fig. 1, is suspended by links 6 from a pin 7 which projects through vertical slots 8, 9, Fig. 2, in the side plates and is supported by eccentric disks 19, 20 resting on projections 21, 22. Brake blocks 14, 15 are pivoted on studs 16, 17 between the side plates, and are connected by links 12, 13 to the pin 7. The hoisting-rope 18 passes between the blocks 14, 15 and corresponding blocks 10, 11, respectively. The braking power is varied by turning the eccentrics by an arm 23. In a modification, Fig. 3, the hoisting-rope is passed round sheaves 34, 35, 36 in such a manner that the weight of the load forces the sheave 36 towards the other sheaves.
