Abstract

1368974 Lift cage catch gear ACE MACHINERY Ltd 16 Feb 1973 [26 Nov 1971] 55015/71 Heading B8L [Also in Division F2] An emergency hoist brake has a pair of cams 10, mounted either side of a guide rail and each having a running surface 11 adjacent to but spaced from the rail when non-actuated and a braking surface 12, a biased lever arrangement connecting the cams to a suspension beam having a pulley assembly for the hoist cage such that when forces due to the cage weight are released from the suspension beam, the levers pivot the cams into braking engagement with the rail. The running and braking surfaces 11, 12 are flattened and mutually angled at 45 degrees and the braking surfaces may have teeth. The cams 10 are mounted on shafts 14 mounted in holes at inner corners of respective pairs of triangular plates 15, outer corners of which are pivotally connected to approximately vertical levers 16 pivoted to the beam which carries the pulley assembly around which a hoisting rope extends. Pins 19 are mounted in the third, lower corners of the plates 15 and are biased towards each other by compression springs 18 for braking action.
