Sweeping-machines; scraping-machines; snow ploughs; taking up mud and refuse for removal.-Relates to machines of the kind having two inwardly-inclined brushes, such as 58, Fig. 1, delivering dirt and refuse towards the centre-line of the machine, and consists in a refuse-elevator comprising an horizontal dirt-receiving plate 28, suspended from the rear fixed axle 14 of the machine, and sliding along the ground on runners 34, the front end of the plate being inclined upwardly, as at 74, to lead to the discharging position. An endless-chain conveyer 64 is guided by sprocket-wheels, as shown, so that it moves horizontally and forwardly along the plate 28, and then upwardly to discharge the dirt &c. on to an inclined receiver 65. The receiver 65 is arched along the centre line, as at 70, so that the dirt passes to the sides and downwards to the bin 67. The elevator, and the parts 65, 70 are unconnected with the bin, and the latter is tilted about the axis 68 for emptying. The brushes, elevator, and rear wheels 11 are all driven by a motor through clutches and appropriate gearing. For removing snow, the brushes 58 are replaced by scrapers adapted to be mounted in the brush-supporting brackets. A central inclined brush 84 is also driven by the motor.
