Abstract

1494791 Lamps; systems of lighting ITT INDUSTRIES Inc 20 Feb 1975 [20 Feb 1974] 7240/75 Heading F4R [Also in Division H2] A pair of high pressure mercury vapour lamps 1, 2 are provided with identical light fittings L1, L2 which are mounted side by side. The lamps are connected in parallel to a supply via a single ballast 3 so that only the lamp with the lower striking voltage is ignited when the supply is switched on. In the event of a brief reduction in the supply voltage, the previously inoperative lamp will be switched on when the supply voltage returns to normal, the outer lamp remaining off due to its high hot striking voltage. The lamps may have different colours and may be coated with photoluminescent substances. In modifications, the lamps are mounted side by side or one above the other in a common light fitting.
