Abstract

1490293 Controlling the tension of yarn being unwound M BONNABAUD and C BRAT 15 May 1975 [16 May 1974] 20523/75 Heading D1J A device for regulating the tension of a yarn as it is unwound from a bobbin 2, Fig. 1, comprises a balanced lever 12 which supports a pulley 14 at one of its ends and over which the yarn passes; a motor 19, Fig. 2, for applying a torque to the lever 12 in the opposite sense to the torque applied thereto by the action of the yarn on the pulley 14; and two potentiometers 24, 25 arranged to be responsive to displacement of the lever 12 and associated with first and second means for controlling the rate of feed-off of the yarn from the supply bobbin 2. In the particular embodiment, if the tension in the yarn increases the lever 12 rocks such that the potentiometer 24 decreases the braking torque of a brake 30 on a motor 29 unwinding yarn from the bobbin 2, and potentiometer 25 increases the unwinding torque of the motor 29. Similarly if the tension in the yarn decreases the lever 12 rocks such_that potentiometer 24 increases the braking torque of brake 30 and potentiometer 25 decreases the unwinding torque of the motor 29. The torque set up by the torque motor is adjustable by a further potentiometer (32), Fig. 3 (not shown).
