Abstract
1465169 Multiple metallic coatings USUI KOKUSAI SANGYO KK 30 May 1974 24106/74 Headings C7B and C7F A metallic substrate is provided with a corosion resistant coating comprising an inner Zn layer, an intermediate Cu layer and an outer Sn layer, the Cu and Sn layers being alloyed at their interface. The substrate may be iron or steel and may have an initial coating of Cr, Cd, Co, Ni, Sn, Pb or electrolytic Cu. The layers may be applied (e.g. to a pipe) by hot dipping or electro-plating, it being necessary in the latter case to heat the coatings e.g. in air or a silicone, to alloy the Cu and Sn. Alternatively the Cu is electro-plated and the other layers hot-dip applied. In electro-plating, an acid ZnSO 4 bath, an alkaline CuCN bath and an acid (pH 1-4) SnSO 4 bath may be used, with intermediate HNO 3 activation of the fresh plated layers.
