Abstract

1456684 Resistance heating element THERMONETTE APPLIANCES Ltd 31 Dec 1974 [14 Jan 1974] 01608/74 Heading H5H A heating panel, which may be flexible, e.g. a blanket, mattress, pad or undercarpet heater, comprises a tortuously arranged single wire element 3 interlocated with a tortuously arranged dual wire element 1, 2. The dual wire element comprises a first wire wound on a rayon core and covered with an insulating P.V.C. sheath 7 and a second wire wound on the sheath 7. The single and dual wire elements are connected to a cable 5 via a hermetically sealed fuse and connector box 4. In the pocketed blanket shown the elements 1, 2, 3 and box 4 may be withdrawn and replaced as a unit A multiheat selector switch (not shown) enables three levels of heat to be selected, i.e. low heat with resistance wires, 1, 2, 3 in series between terminals D, B, medium heat with resistance wires 2, 3 in series between terminals D, A, and high heat with resistance wires 3 and 1 in series between terminals C, B. Resistance wires 2 have a higher resistance than wires 1 and 3. Should the wires 1 and 2 short circuit due to local overheating of sheath 7 through folding the panel one or other of the fuses F1, F2 will blow on any of the heat settings. A diode 8 may be incorporated in the panel to enable the heat settings to vary from 25%, 50% and 100% to 25%, 35% and 100%.
