Abstract
1405068 Catalytic exhaust gas purification FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 2 April 1973 [6 April 1972] 15682/73 Heading B1F A member 22 connecting an I.C. engine exhaust pipe 26 to the housing 10 of a catalyst support 12 projects away from the substantially parallel inlet apertures of the support passages 13 at a sharply acute angle, e.g. 15 to 25‹, to provide a substantially even distribution of exhaust gas flow throughout the crosssectional area of the support. Flow directing projections (32a, 34a), Fig. 3 (not shown), may be provided on the internal surface of the member 22 adjacent its connection to the housing 10. The distance in inches from the centre of the upstream surface 20 of the support 12 to the closest cross-section corresponding to the exhaust pipe cross-section may exceed numerically the ratio of the area of the surface 20 to the exhaust pipe cross-sectional area.
