Abstract

1403607 Mixing apparatus E A HINDERMANN 13 Oct 1972 [15 Oct 1971 10 Feb 1972] 47356/72 Heading BIC Apparatus for blending and conveying to a processing position e.g. an extruder, bulk material such as new and regenerated plastics granulate together with an additional compound such as a master batch for pigmentation, comprises a hopper 3 divided by at least one partition 4 into compartments the discharge outlets (9), 10 of which have adjustable restrictors (11), 12 and are disposed above the inlet end of a screw conveyor 7, 8, and metering means 15, provided for feeding the additional component via a supply duct 17 to a point free of obstruction by the other components to be blended therewith. The metering means comprises an electromagnetic trough conveyor and the duct 17 is arranged to discharge the additional component on to the inclined surface of repose 19 of the other materials in a chamber 18 of the screw conveyor upstream of its main inlet. In an alternative embodiment (Fig 3 not shown) the supply duct for the additional component is arranged vertically within the hopper and terminates in a receiving case for the materials arranged between the hopper outlets and the conveyor inlet and the screw conveyor is flexible and bent upwards to provide an elevated discharge end.
