Abstract
1385860 Electro-coating CANADA WIRE & CABLE Ltd 25 July 1973 [27 July 1972] 35402/73 Heading C7B In electro-coating a continuous conductive substrate 10 passing through an electro-coating bath 20, the incoming coating liquid contacts the substrate at relatively high velocity and the liquid flows radially away from the substrate at the exit point 34. The coating may be of a material curable in oven 39. As shown, fresh liquid enters at 24, 25 and passes at high velocity under narrow gaps 27, 28 to impinge on the substrate near the entry point at seals 15, 16. Partitions 17a, 17b are arms of electrode 17 and are arranged one on either side of the strip substrate. A wier 31 is arranged at least on two opposite sides of the substrate whereby radially outward liquid flow is achieved through overflow into trough 32. The liquid may be recycled after replenishment and temperature adjustment. An apertured plate 29 provides an optional second location of high velocity flow. Glass rods 35, 36 remove "drag-out". Roller 19 provides electrical contact with the sub-. strate. In alternative arrangements, (1) the incoming liquid is directed against the substrate from the inlet pipes, (2) wipers 35, 36 may be flat strips forming a nip, (3) for coating thin foils, seals 15, 16 may be replaced by a second chamber below. the main bath inlet containing a pair of flat strips which form a liquid seal nip, Fig.6 (not shown) and (4) electrode 17 may totally surround the substrate if it is a wire.
