1379583 Haymaking machine C VAN DERLELY NV 9 Dec 1971 [11 Dec 1970] 57328/71 Heading A1F A haymaking machine has a rake member with tine supports 16 carrying tines 19 mechanically rotated by a drive 3 to a central gear box 2, and a swath basket 31 into which crop is deposited and formed into swaths. Two diverging beams 1 and a central beam 5 secured to the gear box casing 2 and to the protective rectangular bracket 9 project forwardly for connection to a three-point lifting device on the towing vehicle. Eight tine supports 16 with telescopic outer portions 18 radiate from the gear-box hub-like portion 15 which rotates about the fixed shaft (20) Fig. 2 (not shown). A supporting bracket 21 is secured to the lower end of shaft (20) and has wheel supports 22 with interconnected plates 23. Ground wheels 28 can be set by arms 26 and locking pins 27 so that tines 19 are in the desired position relative to the ground. A swath basket 31 has a front collecting portion 32, which is open sided adjacent to the rake bead, and a shaping portion 33 of inverted U cross-section. As the swath basket slides over the crop, the latter is slightly compressed due to the tapered construction of the shaping portion. Two hinges 37 and 38, which may be adjustable, pivotally connect the swath basket to the protective bracket 9 so that the former can be brought to the inoperative position Fig. 2 (not shown) when the machine is used for swath turning. For single point towing the machine can be fitted with an auxiliary draw bar (43) Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown). The tines are mounted on rotatable shafts 73 Fig. 6 the lower part of which is bent forwardly 45‹ in the direction of rotation B. The shafts 73 are spring loaded or held by centrifugal force in their maximum anticlockwise position (as seen from the top). With the tines in this position the machine can be used for swath turning and the swath basket would be in the inoperative position. For swath forming the swath basket is lowered and an adjustable steering wheel 88, mounted on the basket is brought into use. As each arm of the rake member passes the swath basket a lever 85 connected to the tine shafts 73 is actuauted by the steering wheel 88 to pivotally displace the tines, for a short period in their circumferential travel, to a maximum clockwise position, so that the tine ends are in a position in which centrifugal forces and air resistance are able to cause crop to be thrown more easily into the collecting portion 32 of the swath basket.
