Abstract

1361162 Wrapping up articles A-T-O Inc 6 Feb 1973 [2 May 1972] 5794/73 Heading B8C Apparatus for packaging articles in a film like wrapper comprises means for feeding the articles in spaced sequence from a loading region towards a discharge region, means for wrapping the film about the articles in the vicinity of the loading region so that it overlaps the ends of each article, the film being provided with weakened areas transversely of its length and means for severing the film at the weakened areas between successive articles and between the loading and discharge regions. As shown, groups of cans 35 on a tray 36 are fed at spaced intervals along a chain conveyer 38 to a collar member 29 over which is fed strip wrapping material 11. As the group passes through the member 29, the wrapping material is wrapped around the group which then moves over a heater 61 between belts 65, 66 to seal the overlapping bottom portions 59 of the wrapper. The package is then fed between rollers 67, 68 which speed up the movement of the package and cause the wrapping to tear across a line of perforations applied to the wrapping material 11 by a perforating device 23 upstream of the collar 29. The individual packages then move on to a conveyer 72 and through a hot-air chamber 73, to heat shrink the ends of the wrapper through an air recirculating chamber 82 and through a hot-air chamber 85 for a final heat-shrinking process.
