Abstract

1359906 Burner for incinerator AIR PREHEATER CO Inc 1 March 1972 [3 March 1971] 9574/72 Headings F4T and F4F A burner for an incinerator comprises a burner 24, fuel and air conduits 26 and 28 connected to it, means 30 for mixing the fuel and air, a pilot burner 32 for igniting the burner 24, and including a branch chamber (25), Fig. 2 (not shown), housing a thermocouple 52 subjected to the temperature of burning fuel and air in the pilot burner 32 and controlling a valve 58 in the fuel supply conduit to regulate fuel flow therein, and continuously bathed in cooling air from the air source 42. The valve 58 controls the flow of fluid in the conduit 26 to the burner 24 and a conduit 38 to a pilot burner 32 and is held open when there is a current flowing in the thermocouple 52, i.e. when it is hot, and is closed by a spring 62 when the pilot flame is extinguished and the thermocouple 52 cools. A manually operated valve 68 is used to shut off the fuel supply to the burner 24 when the pilot flame is extinguished. The pilot burner 32 used to ignite the burner 24 comprises an extension (35) in the burner 24 and has fuel and air conduits 38 and 36, mixing means 46 and igniting means 48. A relay 56 responsive to the thermocouple signals controls the valve 58 and a duct 64 with a regulator 66 connects the pilot burner 32 to the source 42 of air to continuously bathe the thermocouple 52 in a cooling air stream. In an incinerator, the burner 24 exhausts into a secondary combustion chamber 22 where combustion of exhaust gases from the output port 18 of the primary combustion chamber 12 is completed.
