Abstract

1335984 Bleaching textiles IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 15 Sept 1971 [29 Sept 1970] 46246/70 Heading DIP Textile materials are bleached and optionally desized by treatment thereof with H 2 O 2 in the presence of a base, the hydrogen peroxide being applied as an emulsion of aqueous H 2 O 2 in a hydrocarbon (e.g. white spirit) or halogenated hydrocarbon (e.g. trichlorethylene, perchlorethylene, 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane or 1,1,1-trichloroethane) solvent. The solvent is removed and the textile material washed, the Garo being applied prior to an during removal of the solvent. Solvent may be removed by hot air or steam and the fabric washed using an alkali bath. An emulsifying agent e.g. nonyl phenol/ethylene oxide condensate, isopropylamine dodecyl benzene sulphonate; coconut oil diethanolamide, di (methylamyl) sulphosuccinate and salts of sulphated fatty alcohols may be added to the emulsion. Cotton, polyester and regenerated cellulosic materials may be treated. Specified bases are alkali metal hydroxides, metal carbonates, alkali metal alkoxides, monoethanolamine, diethylamino, cyclohexylamine, tertiary amines and ammonia. The base may be applied in the emulsion or before or after application thereof as a bath, spray or in the case of NH 3 a vapour.
