Abstract

1296535 Aerials; aerial input circuits HANS KOLBE & CO 18 Dec 1969 [18 April 1968] 61819/69 Headings H3Q H3T and H4A A radio receiving aerial system comprises a passive aerial part operable in two separate frequency ranges, and two output terminals, at least one of which is connected to a filter integrated with the passive aerial part, and which is for one of the said two frequency ranges. Each output terminal is connected to the input terminal of an amplifying solid state electronic three-terminal element, which is integrated with the aerial system structure. The output impedance of the aforesaid filter, and the working point of the associated threeterminal element are designed to obtain an optimum signal-to-noise ratio over the frequency range concerned. As described, an aerial system comprises an insulating plate P on which are printed a coiled conductive strip 1 and a coiled pseudo-coaxial line having a centre conductor 7 which is an extension of the strip 1, and an outer conductor formed by two strips 2 containing the strip 7 and joined together at their ends. A top capacitor 3, which may be a motor-car rear mirror, is connected to the end of the strip 1, and a terminal 14 at the end of the strip 7 is for a lower-frequency range of operation. A terminal 8 at the end of the strips 2 is for a higher-frequency range of operation. There are also provided on the plate P a capacitor 9, through which the terminal 8 is coupled, and a part A containing the active elements and associated circuitry. The base of a transistor 4, Fig. 2, is coupled to the lower-frequency output of the aerial by a resistor 17 and an inductor 16, a diode 18 giving protection against static. A resistor 22 in the power supply line, in combination with a capacitor 23, provides protection against H.F. interference to the transistor 4. An additional amplifier comprising a transistor 6 may be included, and output is coupled to a common lead-out cable 29. A decoupling resistor 30 in the emitter circuit of the transistor 6 serves to suppress intermodulation interference. The higher-frequency output of the aerial is coupled by a capacitor 11 to the base of a transistor 5, giving output to the common lead-out cable 29. A choke 25 and a capacitor 26 block the lower-frequency output from the transistor 5. Instead of the common lead-out cable 29 a separate output may be provided for each frequency range.
