Abstract
1,236,983. Filters. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. 29 Aug., 1968 [7 Sept., 1967], No. 41265/68. Heading H1W. A waveguide filter comprises a number, e.g. three, half-wavelength resonators 11, 12, 13 coupled to a rectangular waveguide 10 by irises 14, 15, 16, the sections of waveguide between the irises being of restricted width. To this end, the waveguide may contain conductive slabs 20, 21 through which extend screws 17, 18, 19 for tuning the irises. The filter is based upon the transmission line equivalent (Fig. 5) of a lumped element prototype, and the final step in the design consists of realizing in waveguide form the transmission line stubs Z 1 , Z 2 , Z 3 and coupling sections Z 12 , Z 23 . It is shown that the stubs can be realized by means of half-wavelength cavities of given loaded Q factors. The correct Q factors can be obtained by adjustment of the screws. The characteristic impedances Z 12 , Z 23 are realized by adjusting the dimensions of the waveguide between the irises. The Specification sets forth in detail the design procedure for obtaining a maximally-flat threesection filter.
