Abstract
1,220,717. Electromechanical resonators. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 19 Sept., 1968 [26 Sept., 1967], No. 44595/68. Heading H3U. [Also in Division H1] In a housing 1 enclosing air-cooled A.C. electrical apparatus, such as a transformer 10, and having an opening, as 3, for the passage of cooling air into or out of the housing, the transmission of sound through the opening is reduced by means of a tuned acoustic resonator comprising a resonating chamber, as 29, communicating through an orifice 29a with an air passageway adjacent the opening. In Fig. 2 there are two openings 3 and 4 in the housing and adjacent each is disposed, either inside or outside the housing, a structure (Fig. 3, not shown) comprising sets of resonators and an associated rectangular air duct. Each set of resonators comprises a number of resonating chambers (29) tuned to the same even harmonic of the supply frequency and disposed side by side to extend across the full width of the duct, other sets tuned to different harmonics being spaced along the duct. The orifices are tubes 29a, 30a of rectangular cross-section.
