Abstract

1,220,619. Evaporators, vapour-compression type; desalination of water. GHH-M.A.N. TECHNIK GES. FUR ANLAGENBAU m.b.H. 6 May, 1968 [6 May, 1967], No. 21270/ 68. Heading BIB. In distillation apparatus of the vapour-compression type, suitable for the production of fresh water from brine (e.g. sea water), which apparatus comprises evaporation chamber 4, compressor 21 and condenser chamber 3 containing tubes 5, the brine is pumped to the evaporation chamber through conduit 16 and the condenser tubes 5 which are divided into a series of channels by deflector chambers 6. 10, the last deflector chamber 8 being provided with a nozzle 12, whereby the brine is maintained under pressure in the tubes 5 and only boils, and undergoes partial evaporation, when it passes through nozzle 12 into evaporation chamber 4. Non-evaporated brine collects on plate 2 and is returned to pump 11 through conduit 17. Raw sea water is fed into the brine cycle through preheater 22 and conduit 24. Distilled water flows out of condensation chamber 3 through conduit 23, and is withdrawn from the system through preheater 22. Brine is discharged from the system through conduit 25 and preheater 22. An electric heater 15 is provided in chamber 8.
