[Also in Division C3] Novel carboxylic acid amides of the general formula wherein R 1 is a benzene residue having a hydroxyl group in the ortho- or para-position to the -CH 2 - group and two hydrocarbon residues; R 2 is a H atom, a possibly substituted alkyl or aryl radical, or a residue of the general formula or a residue -C(NH 2 ) = NH 2 <SP>+</SP>Cl<SP>-</SP>, -SO 3 <SP>-</SP> cation or -CN, where m is 1 or 2 and n is 1-7 are prepared, for example, by reacting a mono- or di - mercaptoalkyl with a compound of general formula R 1 CH 2 HNCO-CH= CH 2 or by reacting R 1 CH 2 NHCO-(CH 2 )mhalogen with sodium sulphide or a dimercapto compound of formula HS - alkylene - SH. In the examples compounds having the following characteristics are prepared: (1) R 1 =3,5 - di - tert - butyl - 4 - hydroxy phenyl; m = 2 ; n = 1; R 2 = n - propyl, (2) R 1 is same as in (1); m=1; n=1; R 2 = -C(NH 2 )=#NH 2 Cl<SP>-</SP>, (3) R 1 same as in (1); m=1; n=1; R 2 = -SO 3 <SP>-</SP>Na<SP>+</SP>. N - (3,5 - di - tert - butyl, 4 - hydroxy - benzyl) - acrylamide is prepared by reacting 1 - hydroxy - 2,6 - di - tert - butylbenzene with acrylylmethylolamide. The corresponding 5 - methyl derivative is obtained similarly. N - ( 3,5 - di - tert - butyl - 4 - hydroxy benzyl) - chloroacetamide is prepared from 2,6 - di - tert - butylphenol and chloroacetylmethylolamide.
