Abstract

1,185,903. Mechanical switches. LA TELEMECCANIA ELETTRICA ING. AMATI & GREGORINI S.p.A. 10 April, 1967 [9 April, 1966], No. 16260/67. Heading H1N. The body of a limit switch to receive interchangeable operating heads comprises a casing 1 in which a change-over microswitch 5 is mounted, somewhat obliquely to clear inner projections accommodating holes 6 for fixing screws, and a lever 9 (having arms 9a, 9b) is pivoted at 10 such that depression of a ball 11 actuates the pushbutton 8 of switch 5. The casing 1 is closed by a cover 4 which may carry terminals and prongs (not shown) for plug-in connection to the switch 5. Various heads are described to seat on an 0-ring 2. In one a direct-acting plunger (16, Fig. 3, not shown) transmits its motion to ball 11 via an overtravel spring (19); in another a laterally-moving plunger (Fig. 4, not shown) depresses ball 11 by means of a cam (20). The cam (20) may be carried by a double-ended plunger (16a, Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) with overcentre V-springs (22) which snap it into alternate positions. Alternatively a roller-ended lever (24, Figs. 7 and 8, not shown) may rock a cam (28) to provide two-way actuation of the switch or the cam may be reset by 120 degrees to give no actuation in one direction. The lever may have two mutually perpendicular arms (Figs. 9 and 10, not shown) and actuate a cam (34) resettable to provide different sequences of operation (Fig. 11 or Fig. 12, not shown).
