Abstract

1,157,454. Refractory gunning compositions. KAISER ALUMINUM & CHEMICAL CORP. 13 June, 1967 [18 July, l966], No. 27196/67. Heading C1J. A refractory gunning composition comprises refractory grain, 1-5% by wt. of a bonding agent comprising sodium tripolyphosphate, monosodium dihydrogen orthophosphate or borax, and 2-9% by wt. of hydrated lime. The refractory material may be magnesite, periclase, chromite, dolomite, artificial spine grains or mixtures thereof. The composition may also include 1-10% by wt. of graphite. Examples describe refractory compositions based on periclase and an equiweight mixture of periclase and chrome ore. The compositions may be mixed with water and gunned on to hot refractory walls especially those of high MgO content. The compositions may contain small amounts of bentonite.
