Abstract
1,151,826. Valves. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. 30 Aug., 1967, No. 41129/67. Heading F2V. Valve for very high temperatures and pressures, e.g. for nuclear reactors, comprises a valve member 13 which under uniform temperature conditions throughout the valve is gripped tightly by an interference fit with a part 11 of the conduit 10 which forms a seat. This prevents any substantial leakage of fluid in closed position. To enable the valve to be opened and closed, coolant fluid such as helium is blown through the hollow interior 22 of the valve disc member 21 by means of hollow trunnions 15, 16 which support the valve member and by which it is rotatable about an axis passing through the plane of the disc. The shrinkage of the disc frees it for rotation.
