In the jet drilling of a borehole in the earth there is lowered along and rotated about the axis of the borehole a jetting drill in which the therein of nozzles from which earth-cutting, hydraulic jets emerge is such that there is first bored by downwardly issuing jets a pilot bore, which is subsequently enlarged by further jets eroding away the wall of the pilot bore until the full section of the borehole is formed. Three specific forms of bit are described.
