Abstract

1,077,371. Supporting overhead conductors. R. RUTENBERG. Jan. 24, 1964 [Jan. 31, 1963; July 17, 1963], Nos. 4055/63 and 28344/63. Heading H2C. Overhead line conductors are supported by two insulators which extend in opposite directions transverse to the conductor length and include between them an angle of more than 90 degrees. Such an arrangement is said to lead to improved washing of the insulators by rain. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the conductors 5 are supported by insulator strings 6 slightly inclined upwardly from the horizontal and anchored between the middle and one of the supporting posts 7. The spacing of conductors is increased by staggering them slightly by inserting an extension element 12 at opposite ends of successive mounting arrangements. The central post may not reach the ground but may be supported on a horizontal bar itself supported between the two outers (Fig. 3, not shown). The conductors may be supported from a vertical insulator string depending from the junction of the approximately horizontal strings (Fig. 4, not shown). A conventional tower may be used (Fig. 5, not shown), by providing additional supports at its sides between which and the pylon the double insulator strings are mounted. Two conductors may be mounted between the inclined insulators these conductors being spaced by a further string of insulators (Figs. 6, 7, and 8, not shown). Such arrangements may be mounted between vertical posts (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown) or between a pair of adjacent conventional pylons (Figs. 10-13, not shown). The Specification states that insulators in compression inclined downwardly from the conductor to the supports may be used. Apparatus for agitating the conductors or for directing fluid blasts on to them to remove snow are described.
