Abstract
1,052,080. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. EMLE MILLS Inc. Sept. 21, 1965 [Feb. 3, 1965], No. 40155/65. Heading B5K. [Also in Division D1] Tubular fabric articles are placed on individual forms with the open ends of the articles at the outer ends of the forms, the latter are advanced to a station for closure of the open ends while the articles remain on the forms, and the latter are advanced to a station for removal of the forms. As shown, two endless chains 32 are mounted on sprockets rigid with a driven shaft 28 and an idler shaft 54. Secured to the chains at equally spaced intervals are hollow carriages 60, each of which is rigid at one end with a hollow hosiery-inspection form 14, and which slidably carries at its other end a sleeve 104 spring-biased inwardly. Openended stockings H are drawn on to a form 14 at one end of the upper runs of the chains, at a station A, for inspection thereat. The chains operate continuously, and apparatus 18 which may be either a sewing machine or heat sealing or other closure means, positioned at the other end of the upper runs at a station B, serves to close the open ends in succession. Midway of the upper runs a sleeve 104 is engaged with a suction duct 108 and the stocking on the form 14 associated with said sleeve 104 is turned inside out and discharged into a receptacle 154. If a defective stocking is discovered at station A, the inspector depresses a plunger mounted in the associated carriage 60, whereby at station C compressed air is directed into duct 108 to blow the defective stocking into a receptacle 168.
