Abstract

The inflation valve for a football is normally susceptible to derangement by the ingress of earth or mud. The valve consists of a cylindrical body (1) with three parallel circumferential ridges (12) which retain it in the wall of the football (20). A parallel bore (4) extends over most of the length and runs into a control section (16) which in turn runs onto a smaller bore (2). A plug of plastic (13) is pressed against the conical surface (16) by a spring (18). A cylindrical extension (14) of the plug (13) is a close fit in the small bore (2) and so prevents the ingress of earth or mud.
