Abstract

The carburetter (1) of an i.c. engine has a slow running jet (6) whose orifice is adjusted by a screw (9). The screw has a recess (19) between the head (11) and the threaded portion (9). A plastic cap (17b) is fitted over the head of the screw after the carburetter has been adjusted to prevent unauthorised interference with the setting of the screw. This cap has an internal lip (18b) which springs into the recess (19) of the screw to keep the cap in place. An open tube (30) on the body of the carburetter sticks out round the screw and the skirt (32) of the cap slides inside it. This ensures that the cap must be broken by pliers and cannot be prised off by a screwdriver.
