Abstract
Hollow bodies, e.g. aerosol containers, are produced from thermoplastic materials having a crystallisable structure, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, by (a) making a preform from the material, (b) decreasing the diameter of the preform by an axial drawing operation, and (c) expanding the preform to such a degree, at at such a temp., that the expanded body is entirely in a biaxially oriented state, including the neck region. Gives moulded plastic bottles having accurate dimensions and a good mechanical strength over their entire body. Prodn. of rejects is decreased.
