Abstract
The production of uniformly blackened electroless nickel deposits for decorative or functional purposes can be achieved by the incorporation of saccharin in the electroless nickel plating composition. A conversion coating may be formed on the electroless nickel deposit in a chromate bath. Nitrate ions may be incorporated in the chromate conversion bath for particularly even results. The substrate may be steel.
