Definitions
- the invention relates to a can, in particular a tin can, as specified in the preamble of claim 1.
- Such cans are used for the packaging of food, for example for packaging ground coffee, powder for making beverages or the like.
- Such cans are provided, inter alia, with a so-called "peel-off" closure, an opening being punched into the can's cover made of sheet metal (tinplate), which is then covered with a film which on the edge of the opening surrounding the opening Lid is sealed. The consumer can then easily open the can by pulling off the film.
- the object of the invention is accordingly to design a can suitable for food packaging, in particular a tin can, which has an opening closed with a removable film, in such a way that the disadvantages of conventional cans with such a closure are avoided and in particular the material expenditure is reduced and the number of manufacturing steps is reduced is reduced.
- the basic idea of the invention is to completely replace the previously used sheet metal lid provided with the punched-out opening by a removable film, so that the entire upper surface of the can is closed by the film.
- the film since the film must be sealed on the inside of the can, the film should be bent all the way up so that it has a U-shaped cross section.
- a film designed in this way can only be sealed to the inner edge of the can with great difficulty, since the cans generally have certain dimensional tolerances and their cross-sectional areas are also not completely circular. It would therefore be necessary to have a tool that rolls the edge of the film with the sealing coating onto the can jacket or presses it from the inside.
- such tools are complex and expensive.
- the invention therefore provides that the can widens conically in its upper end section and that the film is sealed in this end section.
- the tool with which the sealing of the film is carried out has a corresponding taper, so that the sealing can be accomplished by a pressure acting in the axial direction of the can.
- the conical end section of the can is preferably formed by providing the can with a draw-in there. This has the advantage that the conical end section has a diameter which is smaller than that of the other can, so that its upper end does not protrude outwards beyond the middle part or the bottom of the can. This is important for the stackability and packability of the cans.
- a film is preferably used which is hat-shaped.
- the diameter of the film in the area of the "brim" is slightly larger than the diameter of the can at its upper end. If the film designed in this way is inserted into the conical end section of the can with a slightly conical tool, the "brim” of the film folds upward and lies against the conical end section of the can.
- the can has a reduced inner diameter at the bottom, so that the outer flanging does not protrude beyond the outer surface of the can but is also of the same size on the bottom of the outer diameter of the can.
- the base is preferably designed in such a way that its outer diameter is slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the upper edge of the conical end section, so that in each case the bottom of the can can be inserted into the opening of a can underneath, which improves stackability.
- the conical end section 2 of the can closed with the film 3 is shown enlarged.
- the can opens up from the feeder 21; the angle between the conical end region 2 and the can axis is approximately 7 ° as shown in FIG. 2.
- Fig. 2 it can also be seen that the film 3 is sealed to the inner part of the conical end region 2 and the board is folded over and flanged.
- FIG 3 shows the enlarged area of the edge area of the can base. It can be seen that the casing of the can is tapered so far in the vicinity of the can bottom that the flange 40 does not protrude beyond the casing 11 of the can; in particular, the design is such that the can bottom with its flanging fits into the upper end of the conical end section (2) of another, same can.
- Fig. 4 shows the film 3 used for closure in cross section.
- the film is preferably made of aluminum and is provided with a sealing coating 34 on its underside.
- Their cross section is hat-shaped, the outer diameter being larger than the outer diameter of the can at its upper end. It is provided with a sealing coating 34 on its underside.
- the can is provided with the hat-shaped film or the film brought into the necessary hat-shaped form is placed on a conical, heatable tool and inserted from below with this tool into the conical end section of the can and sealed under pressure on the inside of the can .
- the edge region 35 (the "brim" of the film folds away and lies against the inner surface of the can.
- a handle 32 can be attached to the outward side of the film in the central part, with which the film can then be removed to the outside.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a can, in particular a tin can, as specified in the preamble of
Such cans are used for the packaging of food, for example for packaging ground coffee, powder for making beverages or the like. Such cans are provided, inter alia, with a so-called "peel-off" closure, an opening being punched into the can's cover made of sheet metal (tinplate), which is then covered with a film which on the edge of the opening surrounding the opening Lid is sealed. The consumer can then easily open the can by pulling off the film.
This cans known from the prior art has the disadvantage that a high material scrap is incurred in the manufacture of the lids used for the closure. The lid, which is attached to the casing of the can by rolling or flanging, must first be provided with the opening by punching. The punched-out part is waste material and can no longer be used. Another disadvantage is that the punched openings have a sharp edge, so that there is a risk of injury to the consumer if he reaches into the can with a spoon or the like. If this is to be prevented, the edge of the opening must be reworked. These problems arise in the same way with other cans in which the casing is not made of sheet metal, but e.g. consists of a cardboard tube, but which are also closed in a conventional manner with sheet metal lids.
The object of the invention is accordingly to design a can suitable for food packaging, in particular a tin can, which has an opening closed with a removable film, in such a way that the disadvantages of conventional cans with such a closure are avoided and in particular the material expenditure is reduced and the number of manufacturing steps is reduced is reduced.
This object is achieved with a can, which has the features specified in
The basic idea of the invention is to completely replace the previously used sheet metal lid provided with the punched-out opening by a removable film, so that the entire upper surface of the can is closed by the film. However, since the film must be sealed on the inside of the can, the film should be bent all the way up so that it has a U-shaped cross section. However, a film designed in this way can only be sealed to the inner edge of the can with great difficulty, since the cans generally have certain dimensional tolerances and their cross-sectional areas are also not completely circular. It would therefore be necessary to have a tool that rolls the edge of the film with the sealing coating onto the can jacket or presses it from the inside. However, such tools are complex and expensive. The invention therefore provides that the can widens conically in its upper end section and that the film is sealed in this end section. The tool with which the sealing of the film is carried out has a corresponding taper, so that the sealing can be accomplished by a pressure acting in the axial direction of the can. The conical end section of the can is preferably formed by providing the can with a draw-in there. This has the advantage that the conical end section has a diameter which is smaller than that of the other can, so that its upper end does not protrude outwards beyond the middle part or the bottom of the can. This is important for the stackability and packability of the cans.
In the production of such a closure, a film is preferably used which is hat-shaped. the diameter of the film in the area of the "brim" is slightly larger than the diameter of the can at its upper end. If the film designed in this way is inserted into the conical end section of the can with a slightly conical tool, the "brim" of the film folds upward and lies against the conical end section of the can.
In order to increase the stackability and dispatchability of the cans, it can further be provided that the can has a reduced inner diameter at the bottom, so that the outer flanging does not protrude beyond the outer surface of the can but is also of the same size on the bottom of the outer diameter of the can.
The base is preferably designed in such a way that its outer diameter is slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the upper edge of the conical end section, so that in each case the bottom of the can can be inserted into the opening of a can underneath, which improves stackability.
The invention is described and explained in more detail below on the basis of the exemplary embodiment illustrated in the figures.
