<IMAGE> <IMAGE>In the case of a detachable sabot (10) for a sub-caliber projectile, which is fired from a weapon barrel provided with swirl grooves, there is a relatively large danger zone for the troop to be injured by sabot splinters. In order to reduce this danger area, the invention proposes to manufacture the sabot (10) in one piece from plastic and to arrange the longitudinal grooves (13) from the front to the gas sealing area (14a) on the guide band (14) in cross section in the groove base area (15). <IMAGE> <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a dropable sabot for a sub-caliber floor according to the preamble of claim 1.

Sub-caliber projectiles, also known as sabot or sabot projectiles, are fired in particular with automatic weapons with swirl tubes, the sabotable sabots required for this purpose being known, for example, from EP-A-0 288 721.

This known sabot consists of a sabot rear, preferably made of light metal, in which the projectile body or penetrator is anchored, and a sabot jacket, preferably made of plastic, which surrounds the projectile body. At least partially, longitudinal grooves and interacting predetermined breaking points are present on both parts in order to achieve a segmentation of the formed retaining tabs of the sabot rear and the relatively large casing segments when the sabot is detached from the projectile outlet when exiting the pipe muzzle. The rest of the light metal tail remains whole and flies a considerable distance further in the direction of the projectile body than the previously mentioned segment parts. Due to their mass, these fragments have such a high energy that it is not permissible to overshoot the troop and this results in a relatively large danger zone.

The object to be achieved by the present invention is to create a droppable sabot, with which a drastic reduction in the danger zone for the troops is achieved.

According to the invention, this object is achieved by the features in the characterizing part of patent claim 1.

Due to the one-piece sabot, in particular made of fiber-reinforced plastic, and the special arrangement and design of the longitudinal grooves, which interact with corresponding predetermined breaking points, the danger zone is significantly reduced as a result of smaller, low-mass splinters only made of plastic, the sabot tail also breaking open. The following additional advantages also result:
  • Small splinters result in a better separation process, ie less interference impulses on the projectile body,
  • Weight reduction without loss of strength,
  • Due to the now possible possibility of axial demolding due to the continuous longitudinal grooves, the use of multiple injection molds is possible and thus a more economical production.

Fig. 4,5,6:
each have a cross section according to FIG. 2, shown enlarged by further design variants.

Patronenhülse auf und der Geschosskörper 1 ist im Treibspiegel 10 beispielsweise durch Nuten oder Rillen 19 befestigt.1 and 2, a sub-caliber or sabot projectile is only partially shown and contains a projectile body 1, preferably made of heavy metal, with a ballistic hood 2 attached to it, and a one-piece, removable plastic sabot 10 according to the invention, see also FIG has a sabot jacket 11 and a sabot rear end 12. On the sabot 10 there are longitudinal grooves 13, regularly distributed around the circumference and continuously from the front (in the drawing from above) to the gas sealing area 14a at the end of a guide band 14, which have cross sections in the groove base area 15. This forms segments 20 which are connected to one another by corresponding predetermined breaking points 16, for example six each according to FIG. Furthermore, further grooves 21 are preferably provided on the sabot rear 12 to form further predetermined breaking points. In addition, not essential for the invention, the sabot 10 has a circumferential groove 17 at the front or, on the circumference of the sabot rear 12, fastening means 18 for the protective hood or cartridge case, which is not shown, but is known per se, and the projectile body 1 is in the sabot 10, for example by grooves or grooves 19 attached.

Preferably, the sabot 10 is made of fiber reinforced plastic, e.g. made of PEI, PEEK or PPS with glass, carbon and / or Armid fibers, whereby a mixed form of different fibers is also possible.

Die Fig.4, 5 und 6 zeigen weitere vorzugsweise Ausführungsformen von Nutenerweiterungen 15 und entsprechender Vermehrung von Sollbruchstellen 16 am Treibspiegel 10 zur Verkleinerung der resultierenden Splitter beim Ablösen des Treibspiegels 10 vom Geschosskörper 1.4, 5 and 6 show further preferred embodiments of groove extensions 15 and a corresponding increase in predetermined breaking points 16 on the sabot 10 to reduce the resulting splinters when the sabot 10 is detached from the projectile body 1.

The proposed extensions 15 in the groove base area and the interacting predetermined breaking points 16 and also the choice of plastic material result in smaller plastic splinters when the sabot 10 is detached from the projectile body 1 and thus a considerably shorter flight distance for the light splinters, i.e. the desired drastic reduction in the danger zone has thus been achieved.
