Description

The invention relates to a suspension arrangement for railway vehicles (in particular for freight wagons), comprising, for each axle, springs supported by the axle boxes and connected by their free end to the chassis to be suspended (chassis of axle wagon or bogie chassis) by oblique articulated rings each surrounding a lower articulation axis secured to the chassis to be suspended and an upper articulation axis supported by the corresponding spring, the arrangement being designed so that the distance, counted horizontally, between the upper articulation axis of each connecting ring and the axle axis is constant, each axle box being framed - with longitudinal play - by a pair of guard plates.

There are known such suspension arrangements equipped with helical springs with friction damping devices, in which the axle is permanently applied, at the level of each box, against a guard plate by the horizontal force generated by a pair of oblique link rings located on the same side of the axle. Such an axle therefore offers excellent stability, but suffers from a lack of orientability, so that when attacking a curve the axle tends to remain perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle or of the bogie, which affects the quality of the wheel guidance and constitutes, in extreme cases, a risk of derailment.

Axles of the indicated type are also known, equipped with leaf springs, ensuring both suspension and damping. The axle boxes are not pressed against their guard plates. If such axles have good steerability, their stability leaves something to be desired. In addition, their amortization is often insufficient.

The invention aims to remedy these drawbacks and allow the realization of a suspension combining stability and orientability while benefiting from satisfactory damping.

To this end, according to the invention, for each box axle is provided with at least one pair of oblique connecting rings (these rings can be replaced by any equivalent member; for example connecting rods or struts, or else double rings of the type prescribed by the International Union of Railways) arranged symmetrically on either side of the axle, the angles made by these two rings with the vertical being however slightly different, while the axle box rests at rest with a certain force (dependent of the difference of said angles) against one of the guard plates. This force is equal to the result, in longitudinal direction, of the horizontal components of the forces exerted on the connecting rings due to the weight of the suspended chassis; it is not zero, thanks to the difference in obliquity given to the rings, and has the effect of pushing the axle boxes against the guard plates located on one side of the axle. This force defines a threshold below which the axle is stable and beyond which the axle is steerable by displacement of the axle boxes in their casing. The latter case occurs in curves of small radius where the orientation forces of which the axle is the seat exceed said threshold, so that the axle can be placed in the radial direction in such curves. When these forces decrease below the threshold, the axle regains its stability.

In a preferred embodiment relating to a suspension with helical springs, for each axle box are provided two helical suspension springs of vertical axis, located substantially symmetrically on either side of the axle, the free end each of them being capped with a cap which carries the upper articulation axis of the corresponding connecting ring and presses with a horizontal thrust force on a friction lining of vertical plane in contact with a friction lining carried by the axle box, the whole axle box and friction linings being interposed - with said clearance - between the guard plates. Preferably, the friction lining cooperating with that of the axle box is carried by a push rod sliding through the guard plate. corresponding, on which the pushing force of the spring cap is exerted.

In a preferred embodiment relating to a suspension fitted with leaf springs, a single leaf suspension spring is provided for each axle box, at each end of which is fixed the upper articulation axis of the ring corresponding connection, and the contact surfaces of the axle box and the guard plates are provided with friction linings.

These friction linings, like those provided in the aforementioned case of a suspension with helical springs, have the effect of ensuring the damping of the suspension both in the vertical direction and in the transverse direction and thereby imparting good vehicle stability. The damping of an axle suspended by leaf springs is improved.

Each axle box can be mounted in the center of its leaf spring, the position of the guard plates being slightly offset from that of the lower articulation axes of the connecting rings, so as to produce an asymmetrical assembly in which the axle box is pressed at rest against a guard plate. The same result can also be obtained by slightly shifting each axle box relative to the center of its leaf spring, on the side where it must rest at rest against a guard plate. All these offsets are of course carried out identically on either side of the longitudinal plane of symmetry of the vehicle.

The description which follows, with reference to the accompanying drawings by way of nonlimiting examples, will make it possible to understand clearly how the invention can be put into practice.

Figure 1 shows a side view of a bogie axle with a suspension arrangement according to the invention, equipped with helical springs, the corresponding wheel being omitted.

La figure 2 représente schématiquement, à la manière de la figure 1, un essieu simple doté d'un agencement de suspension selon l'invention équipé de ressorts à lames .FIG. 2 schematically represents, in the manner of FIG. 1, a single axle provided with a suspension arrangement according to the invention equipped with leaf springs.

Le châssis 1 porte des plaques de garde 6.In the exemplary embodiment illustrated in FIG. 1, the chassis 1 of a rail vehicle bogie is suspended by means of pairs of springs 3 bearing on consoles 4 forming a body in the usual manner with the boxes d axle 5, unsprung components. The chassis 1 carries guard plates 6.

Ces pièces 14 prennent appui sur les ressorts 3 par l'intermédiaire des anneaux 11 et des chapeaux 10.On the same side of the longitudinal axis of the axle 2 centered in the boxes 5 and symmetrically with respect to the vertical plane V passing through this axis, movable rubbers 7 bear on the slides 8 of these axle boxes. Said movable wipers are carried by pushers 9 subjected to the action of caps 10 mounted on the springs 3, said caps being connected by non-deformable rings 11, engaged with upper articulation pins 12 integral with these caps, to lower articulation axes 13 carried by parts 14 integral with the chassis 1. These parts 14 bear on the springs 3 by means of the rings 11 and the caps 10.

The forces P applied by the chassis 1 to the springs 3 correspond to the forces F ' 1 , F' 2 oriented in the respective direction of the connecting rings 11, that is to say straight lines D 1 , D 2 joining their axes. articulation 12,13, and horizontal forces F 1 , F 2 pressing the pushers 9 and their linings 7 against the runners 8 of the axle box 5 and thus ensuring a damping proportional to the load, both in the vertical direction than transverse, parallel to the plane V.

The angles 0 (and β made by the lines D 1 and D 2 with the vertical are made different by a slightly asymmetrical construction. In the example in Figure 1, α is greater than β, so that F i is larger as F 2. It follows that the axle box 5 is pushed to the left with a force equal to F 1 -F 2 , while a clearance J appears on the right between the lining 7 and the guard plate 6 .

In these conditions, when the vehicle is moving on track in alignment or in a large radius curve, the orientation forces exerted on the axle 2 are weak, less than F 1 -F 2 and this is applied stably against the guard plates 6 on the left, as shown. When the vehicle approaches a more severe curve, these forces increase and exceed the threshold F 1 -F 2 . The axle then offers orientability between the guard plates 6, thanks to the clearance J, which allows it to correctly take the curve.

At the ends of each of these are fixed axes of upper articulation 12 connected by oblique rings 11 to lower articulation axes 13 secured to the chassis 1 by means of parts 14. Here, the straight lines D 1 , D 2 will no longer compete below the axle 2 (as in Figure 1), but above the latter. The axes 13 are mutually more distant than the axes 12 and the forces F 1 , F 2 are no longer directed towards the plane V, but on the opposite side.

We then make β less than α so that F 2 is greater than F 1 and the axle box 5 is applied, at rest, by a force F 2 -F 1 against that on the left of the guard plates 6 which l 'frame. This condition is achieved in the present example thanks to a slight offset given to the right to the guard plates 6 with respect to the lower articulation axes 13 (b> a).

In the case of FIG. 3, the same condition (α> β) is obtained by shifting to the left of each axle box 5, which is no longer fixed at the center of the corresponding spring 15, but slightly offset by a quantity d relative to the center of said spring, the distances a and b being here, as usual, equal.

The solution of Figure 3 can be more easily applied to existing wagons than that of Figure 2; however, it has the drawback of causing the springs 15 to work non-symmetrically.

The example in Figure 1 can also be applied to the suspension of axle vehicles. Similarly, the examples of Figures 2 and 3 can be applied to the suspension of bogies.

In general, each of the pairs of rings 11 can be split. This is the case of the example of Figure 1, where each cap 10 is provided with two rings 11 located on either side of the spring 3, one of them not being visible in the figure.
