A bleaching improving composition particularly suitable for cellulose fibers comprises (a) a polymer, a copolymer or a salt thereof of maleic acid, acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and (b-1) a saccharose alcohol having the formula: CH2OH(CHOH)nCH2OH in which n is an integer of 2 to 6, (b-2) an aldonic acid having the formula: CH2OH(CHON)nCOOH in which n is an integer of 2 to 6, (b-3) a water-soluble salt of the alcohol or the acid or (b-4) a lactone of the alcohol or the acid. The composition is added to bleaching agents comprising hydrogen peroxide, alkali and sodium silicate.
