Feather Wing Caddis

Im calling this a feather wing caddis but Im sure there is an actual name for this fly since I am not the first person to tie something like this. I just don't know the name. However I was looking for a small caddis to be able to fish the stocked trout at my local river here at the end of December, which is about the only time to go trout fishing here in Texas. There are holdover trout in the Guadalupe river, however it gets so hot in the summer it's not ethical to go after them and try to catch them. However the temps drop enough in the winter here to start fishing the trout, and mid to end of December they usually will stock the local river with little trout, which makes for a great opportunity to catch them on the dry fly. In fact last year, I saw all these tiny gray/tan caddis flying around which was what the trout were rising for. So this year I figure I will give this pattern a try since it best represents those small caddis.

Check out my sponsor Risen Fly! They made the hooks and scissors I used today, but they sell more than just fly tying materials and tools, but also rods and reels and a host of other items you need to fly fish. All of their offerings are top quality, yet they offer them at amazingly good prices. Best off they are offering you all a discount just for being my subscriber, so go to www.risenfly.com and type in McFly at checkout for 15% off your first order with them.

Great news guys! I just got some of my patterns approved for the books of a distributor. This means fly shops across America will be able carrying my patterns. Not all fly shops though work with the distributor that took my pattern. This distributor is called Yellowstone Fly Goods, and it would help me out greatly if you all go to your local fly shop and tell them you want to pick up some of my patterns. One is called the McFly Foam Cray, and the other is called the McFly McCraw, tell the fly shop you want to get some of these patterns, and tell them to sign up with Yellowstone Fly Goods Distribution to get the patterns in. If these sell well, I have many more awesome patterns they will take over the next few years! So please help me out and get these sold.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
