cannot identify BambooSMTP error

trying to get a new docker setup off the ground, i run into smtp problem while using mailgun:

is there any way to bubble up the bamboo error? i think this is related to a lot of 500s around here in the forum, like #811 (reply in thread)

i have a suspicion that bamboosmtp might be quite picky about the presentation of the smtp configuration, i.e. quotes, combination of ports and ssl=true/false, etc. so maybe debug mode could be a bit more verbose?

Yeah could be a problem with Bamboo, although the error seems to be suppressed by Phoenix itself to turn it into a 500 response. I've asked for help here: https://elixirforum.com/t/how-to-log-errors-that-phoenix-converts-to-http-responses/38916

okay, let's see. i first wanted to avoid using the smtp container, but now i realize i can configure that one as a relay for mailgun etc as well. i might just do that. and to be honest, if this bambooSMTP config generates so much noise here, you might just want to consider removing that configuration option, and opt for a dependency on an external relay...

but then again, maybe the bamboo error message fix is super easy and transparent :)

also: thanks for all your work, i really appreciate it. i can imagine the stretch between having to make money with one part of the project but pushing the limits with supporting the selfhosted version. i hope everybody around here in the discussions does appreciated that as well.

Thanks @whysthatso. Supporting self-hosted can be painful at times but I think it's for the best :)

I think it's not just Bamboo. I'd like to get better logs for errors that are converted to HTTP responses in general.

one very curious fact is the differences in errors by merely changing ports or adding/removing quotes:
