qnavigate

QGIS plugin for meteo, dynamic routing, and navigation

Each work package is independent of others, and some (in particular QMeteo and Dynamic routing) are of very general interest. The same approach can be useful in other context.

The following packages are in logical order, not sorted by priority.

Work package #1: QSea: load and style marine charts

on standby - new standards are coming, better wait

Work package #2: QMeteo: load meteo data [done]

https://gitlab.com/faunalia/gribdownloader/ published in https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/gribdownloader/

More issues related to QNavigate

  • bounding box taken from points above; start date taken from above
  • also tides must be downloaded and taken into account for cosatal navigations; currents for open sea

Further info on GRIB files

Work package #3: Dynamic routing [done]

https://github.com/enricofer/wind_forecast_routing (based on https://github.com/dakk/libweatherrouting/)

Further improvements

  • avoid land masses (from WP#1)
  • avoid other undesirable areas (e.g. crossing traffic corridors at right angles)
  • define optional variables
    • % reduction for night navigation
    • % reduction for strong winds
    • avoidance of high waves
    • minimum sea depth
  • take currents into account
  • take tides into account

Further info

Work package #4: Navigation

Work package #5: Porting to tablet
